The CRAP SOGN GION MOUNTAIN STATION

It is always absolutely fascinating to visualize a building with such impressive architecture.
Even after many years of working as a visualizer, it is a great adventure to experience first hand how shapes and structures harmonize in architecture.
But this project surpasses everything, not least because of its LOCATION!!!

The Crap Sogn Gion mountain station
The mountain station in the municipality of Falera in the Swiss canton of Graubünden in Switzerland is in a breathtaking location at 2,222 meters above sea level.
It is located on the Crap Sogn Gion, a peak in the Graubünden Alps, near the well-known winter sports resort of Flims-Laax.

Crap Sogn Gion has grown through constant, uncontrolled expansion into a non-functional, resource-wasting structure in need of renovation. Traditional investment usually responds to such an inventory with total demolition.
But there are alternatives to the traditional approach to dealing with an outdated and functionally hopeless inventory.

The approach of our client AFF ARCHITEKTEN:
Reassemble – reassembling the mountain, the topography and the spatial conglomerate of the existing volumes.
In doing so, they are building on the history of construction on the mountain, which was already a pioneering achievement with the construction of the circular building 50 years ago.
To build it, parts of the Télécanape system from Expo Lausanne 1964 were dismantled and reused on the Crap Sogn Gion.

The renovation and expansion of the mountain station is not only ecologically sensible, but also necessary from an economic and functional perspective.
